Madonna and U2 booked for Grammys

(BBC News) -- Madonna and U2 will perform at this year's Grammy awards in Los Angeles, organisers have confirmed.
The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences said they are of 10 to 12 acts invited to play at the American music industry's most prestigious awards ceremony.
Both acts, who have won multiple Grammys in the past, are in the running for three more titles at this year's ceremony.
Michael Greene, academy president, said they were "emblematic of the quality of performers who will make this year's Grammy telecast the most spectacular and important ever".
Madonna has won five Grammys in the past, mostly for her 1998 album Ray of Light.
Her nominations this year include record of the year for Music, the title track from her current album.
U2 have previously won seven Grammys. This time, they are competing against Madonna in the record of the year category with their track Beautiful Day.
The same song is also nominated for song of the year.
Overall, this year's Grammys are expected to be dominated by rap artists Eminem and Dr Dre.
Eminem has four nominations and his mentor Dr Dre has five. Destiny's Child singer Beyonce Knowles also has five nominations.
Co-singer Kelly Rowland picked up four along with former members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson.
British musicians also feature in the nominations. Producer Nigel Godrich is credited for his work with Radiohead and Travis.
Radiohead's Kid A album is up against Beck's Midnite Vultures, Paul Simon's You're The One, Steely Dan's Two Against Nature and Eminem in the album of the year category.
The Grammys take place on 21 February.
