Nobody hurts

(Dotmusic.com) -- U2 and REM have exchanged gushing compliments, as they continue to defy their 'elder statesmen of rock' profiles.

Both groups are inspiring ever-greater reverence worldwide, off-the-back of their respective latest albums.

Bono has revealed how inspiring the new REM record is, as we await the release of 'Reveal', which is out in the UK on May 15.

Bono told USA Today that the album is "extraordinary". He explained: "I felt ill when I heard it. It's a very beautiful, awe-inspiring record. REM is a force."

Meanwhile, Mike Mills revealed what the motivational force was behind REM at this stage in their career.

He told the BBC: "To make a better record than U2!"

"I couldn't be happier for those guys and proud of them. Why do we do it? Because we couldn't do anything else. I'm no good at doing much, other than writing songs and playing instruments."
