CNN Goes Backstage At The Tomb Raider Music Video And U2 Concert (5/19/01)

Posted on Thursday, May 17 @ 02:34:06 CEST by Macphisto

(Zap2it.com) -- CNN's World Beat will provide viewers with a backstage pass to one of the year's hottest rock tours as host Brooke Alexander talks with members of the mega-hit band U2. Viewers will go behind the scenes of U2's 2001 Elevation Tour and the making of the new Tomb Raider music video as Alexander interviews show producer Willie Williams and longtime U2 manager Paul McGuiness as well as others involved with putting together one of the biggest rock tours of the year.

The half-hour World Beat is the world's first international music news program, offering in-depth profiles and interviews with artists from around the world. It airs on Saturday, May 19, at 12 a.m. and again on Sunday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m.

Focusing on the basics, the Irish quartet says this tour centers on the music and the fans. "We're playing a more intimate kind of venue, the 15-to-20,000 seaters," lead guitarist The Edge told World Beat. "Last time we were in football stadiums ... As weird as it might sound, the indoor arenas do feel like spaces that we feel comfortable in. The football stadiums are a bit of a challenge for us. They are very big, and it's hard to feel the people at the back of the venues."

Additionally, World Beat will air exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the band making the "Elevation" video. The single off the next U2 album is included on the soundtrack of the new Tomb Raider movie. The band took a short break from touring for a two-day shoot in Los Angeles to make the video for the movie based on the hugely successful Tomb Raider video game.

In the video, the band faces off with an evil version of itself and a kidnapped The Edge is rescued by the film's heroine, Lara Croft, who is played by Angelina Jolie.
