(NewMediaMusic.com) -- Free U2 Webcast to Occur on October 10th at U2.com, Exclusively in Real's Format and Offered to European Audience Through Tiscali's Fifteen European Portals
U2, RealNetworks(R), Inc., the global leader in Internet media delivery, and Tiscali, the leading pan-European Internet Communications Company, today announced that U2's concert at the University of Notre Dame, the legendary home of "The Fighting Irish," will be webcast live on the Internet at U2.com by RealNetworks and Tiscali on Wednesday, October 10, at 9:00 p.m. (EDT). The show will mark the start of the third leg of U2's Elevation 2001 Tour. The band has already performed more than 100 shows to more than two million fans around the globe this year. The live webcast is available to fans worldwide free of charge.
On the night of the webcast, RealNetworks will bring the concert to U.S. fans online via http://www.U2.com and http://www.real.com. European fans will also be able to access the concert live at 3:00 a.m. (CET) on Thursday, October 11 through the homepage of the Tiscali webcast hub located at http://u2.tiscali.com. Tiscali will then officially re-broadcast the concert for a European audience the following day at 9:00 p.m. (CET) at each of its fifteen European portal sites. In order to view the live webcast, U2 fans will need RealPlayer(R), available for free download at http://www.real.com.
The live webcast will offer state of the art viewing with multiple cameras -- four of which will be focused on each member of the band, giving users the chance to follow their favorite band member, effectively becoming actual directors of their personal online experience. U.S. fans subscribing to RealNetworks' GoldPass(TM) and European subscribers to Tiscali's services will be able to "go backstage" and enjoy an unforgettable live experience through an interactive 360-degree spin cam, while also gaining access to "making of" footage of the concert, and backstage interviews with the band and crew.
For twenty-one days following the event, RealNetworks and Tiscali will offer on-demand, exclusive viewing of broadband coverage of the concert, as well as interviews with U2 band members, to RealNetworks' GoldPass members through http://www.real.com and Tiscali subscribers through http://u2.tiscali.com/ . Real Broadcast Network(TM) (RBN), RealNetworks' Content Delivery Network division, is responsible for the production, management and delivery of the live U2 webcast.
Announced last month in Europe, Tiscali will distribute RealPlayer, RealJukebox(R) and RealArcade(TM) consumer products to all their new users and upgrades of these products to existing Tiscali users. Tiscali has 7.1 million active users and 13 million monthly unique visitors to its websites across 14 European countries. In addition the companies agreed to work together for on- and off-line advertising and co-marketing efforts, the provision of Internet access to consumers across Europe and other joint business development efforts.
