U2 to play TOTP studios

(BBC News) -- Rock superstars U2 are to perform at the Top Of The Pops studios for the first time in 17 years.
They will film three tracks at the studios in Elstree later this week, with the first to be shown in Friday`s programme.
When the band last performed on the show in 1983, other studio guests included Kajagoogoo, the Style Council, Tracey Ullman and New Order.
U2, still riding high in the charts with recent number one Beautiful Day, have sung on the show many times, but never actually in the show`s studios.
This time around other stars on the show will include Steps, Coldplay and Martine McCutcheon.
The band`s track Elevation will be used in this week`s show, and Beautiful Day will go out in the Christmas special.
They will also record Stuck in a Moment, to be used on the show when it is released as a single next year.
A spokeswoman for the show said: "It`s a fantastic coup for the Top Of The Pops. It`s the first TV studio recording they have done for years and they were well up for it."
